BIO
Üga Büga is a heavy metal band from Charlottesville, Virginia. Comprised of singer/guitarist Calloway Jones, bassist Niko Cvetanovich, and drummer Jimmy Czywczynski, the trio combines their eclectic influences to create a unique, forceful sound aimed towards sludge, stoner, and thrash metal sensibilities. Formed in mid 2021, the group shuffled through various lineups and genres before settling into their current form in November, 2022. Drawing from their backgrounds in blues, country, prog rock, punk, and metal, the band applied their own tastes to a collection of songs written by Calloway Jones, rearranging and transforming them into a cohesive, decidedly heavier body of work that would go on to be their forthcoming debut album “Year of the Hog”. The group now writes collaboratively and relies heavily on the contributions given by each member.
The foundation laid in 2023 allowed the group to hit 2024 with a sledgehammer, performing rigorously across Virginia and into the surrounding states, quickly gaining a reputation as a sonic outlier. Fans have made comparisons to a “bluesy Mastodon” or “hippy High on Fire”. Almost all metal subgenres have been thrown around by audience members and peers in regards to Üga Büga, but the underlying consensus seems to be two words: unique and heavy.
